The stock wiring has a connector for the fluorescent lights (maybe 2 - one for each fixture, I don't remember). You could just unplug it (or both). I don't know how yours is wired, though, since it is not stock.

I looped the little ground wire around a metal nub on the light frame and didn't notice any problems playing today. Hopefully that fixes it, but will keep an eye on it for the next few days. Maybe it was just bouncing around and touching metal intermittently and causing quick bursts of static.
