Chris and I did this, 10 minutes of uninterrupted 16th stream at 140 bpm.

The song is called 140bpm Streamathon Warmup? What does it sound like? Is it just a metronome?

It's a mash up of 2 or 3 trance songs. It was made as a "warm up" for the 2 hour challenge done by Calimist. Happy feet has SDE'd the warm up, and 99.90% a 30 min version.

Does competitive play exist anymore in the form of tournaments, or do people just post songs and try to get the best scores they can?

Looks like someone has never heard of Rocky Mount and GOM!

God bless, y'all.

Are either of those still happening? If so, what's the purse for the winner?

I have no idea but aaroninjapan.com is where you'd want to go since that's the only place where people talk about tournaments and playing this game for money.

With that being said, if a DDR/ITG tournament ever got more than a $1,000 prize pool I would be genuinely surprised. I am pulling this figure out of nowhere, but the best DDR/ITG player in the US has probably not made more than $10,000 total playing this game. I'm not going to count non-monetary prizes since winning an ITG cab is probably a bigger pain in the ass than it's worth and who is honestly happy when they win a Cobalt Flux?

I'm also going to throw out there that Jason Dread has also probably not won more than $10,000 playing Pump. In fact, I'd be willing to wager that all the combined prize pools in all US Pump tournaments ever totals less than $10,000.

Playing video games for money will never be a thing unless you're in Korea and you latch on to a game that has an abnormal longevity and has the opportunity of being a good spectator sport for the average bumfuck to at least follow what's going on. RTS games are probably the only genre out there where that would be possible.

There have been some pretty big prizes for FPS games card games like MTG, but you don't get paid unless you're the best of the best. If you're top 20, enjoy being poor.

I would guess more than $10,000 total. I'll guess that any given tournament has at least $100 in prizes, and there have been 100 tournaments in the lifetime of Pump in the US. There may have been a major or two (like WPF) where the winner gets more serious bank. I suck at pump, but have probably thrown away $50 (.5%) in tournaments. There have to be 200 suckers like me out there.

Man I don't know. Pump isn't popular at all in the US. The only reason why there's a remote interest in Pump in Indiana is because Brian is superboners for the game and Jason Dread lives kind of sort of near the area. Even still the interest is relegated to Indy and Bloomy, I don't think there's a Pump machine here anymore in Fort Wayne after Putt-Putt tried their hand with Pro and we fucking love dance games up here. The people who play Pump with any sort of regularity is really small:

Brian
Brandon
Tim
dr88
Ledline

And if you want to go back a few years you can include Jeremy, Mike/Katy, and myself.

I'm admittedly ignorant of the subject, but I just don't see or read about Pump being played all that much elsewhere. The only other communities I can imagine existing are Texas, Ohio, California, and the Carolinas (thanks to JBoy).

Maybe we should take this to the Jason Dread Thread.

Care to set a line on how much Jason has won playing Pump Tournaments? Cash only.

I'll throw down a dollar even though we lost track of who owed money to who since nobody ever paid up.

Jason Dread stars in... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283832/

I'd set the line at $4,050 and I would take the under.

Counter-proposal?

How about $2,501?

ITG '08 US OPEN (July 2008) had a 1st place prize of $650, I believe this is the biggest prize to date post lawsuit.

GOM X (May 2009) was the last of the series. The machine is now owned by Mad Matt

Rocky Mount X (July 2009) was the last of the series.

======

Fort Rapids in Columbus has replaced GOM in Dayton. Fort Rapids 4 ('10) and 5 ('11) have had higher attendance and been more successful than any other tournaments in the post-lawsuit era.
- FR4 had over 64 entrants dragging dozens of players from both East and West Coasts.
-FR5 was set up as an "elite" tournament with a with a $20 entrance fee, and capped at 32 and pool play for the top 16. 1st place prize of about $350 (2nd biggest cash prize after 08 US OPEN). The winner was wearing MY shoes (that I sold him)! The exact pair I posted here.

IDK about Pump

Are you taking the over or under?

I'll take the under. Based on Dave's post there's no way Dread has made any fucking real money playing Pump, he's probably made $2,500 at most give or take a hundo. Jason is good but he's been beat a few times, given that the much more popular game has had a $650 prize at its peak, there's no way Jason has gotten anything out of this game other than a good workout and a talking point when he's laying the mack for the splack.
