Welp, I am about to purchase a house so I sold all my stocks. After dividends and taxes and all that shit I made a grand total of:

Man, it really sucks that I had to sell during a time when the market was meh (fucking God damn Greek debt crisis) but overall I am glad I was able to eek out a small profit.

Holy shit! I haven't been paying too close attention since I got out but God damn I didn't know it got this bad. Hell the S&P is at 1981 right now and it was around 2050 when I checked earlier this week.

The most proximate answer is "China". Then factor in Russia and Greece (and the rest of the Eurozone). US investors are selling off thinking that global issues are going to drag down the US economy.

I don't think it's limited to the US though. Markets are down pretty much everywhere. Those reasons probably still apply. Welcome to the global economy.

It rarely hurts to buy into a downturn. Be aware that it's extremely difficult to "time" the market. You may initially lose in periods of volatility like this. In an IRA, at your age, you shouldn't care since it's all super long term. You'll get it all back eventually and more. Look at it this way: you were ready to buy in at the higher value at the start of this week. You're just getting a discount, now.

I can't really speak to those specific funds. Just make sure their expense ratio isn't outrageous and make absolutely sure that your advisor is not getting a kickback off of them. Looks like you mostly have A shares. Those are good for long term buy and hold, but you'll do worse than buying a C share if you plan to alter your portfolio in a manner that would require selling them in the next 3-5 years.

Just be ready to die before you ever see a dime of that money back and take solace in the fact that your grown children will have a nice chunk of change that they can blow irresponsibly or, if you taught them fiscal responsibility, they can use to pay off the inevitable mountain of debt they will assume in their lifetime.
