I actually understand Riot's logic on this. I'm not really trying to shame him. I just don't agree with it. I find it personally unfathomable that anyone would value pixels in a game at prices that high or even higher. I mean, I'm guessing that's quite a bit more than the game itself even cost.

In general, I like to make a game out of not spending money inside of games. I make a point to not participate in the micropayment systems of many games these days that give you powerups or skins or whatever. If I can't win it by playing better, I don't care to have it. I don't even like buying DLC all that much--but I can at least justify it if it adds something new for me to do in a game that I am enjoying.

I don't really LIKE DLC and microtransactions but at the same time, if I find myself playing it more than most games, I don't see the big deal in paying a little bit. I spend $60 on a new "traditional" game that can be beaten in 12-20 hours, yet I play Clash of Clans for probably 300+ hours on my phone and have spent maybe $25 in little gems to make my upgrades go faster. I've played CS:GO for over 700 hours and the game cost $15. If I play for 3 hours a day with other people, you may as well pay to have a little status symbol here or there. I'm not saying items are an investment, but at the same time, I can always cash out if I were to quit basically. CS:GO is getting MORE popular with the esports scene emerging, so it's not like I just pissed away $130 that I will never see again.

To each his own, I suppose.

If everyone valued everything equally in both utility and value, we'd live in a very boring world.

You're out of Chad points for today. Would you like to buy 100 stars for $29.99? BEST VALUE!!!

I loathe microtransactions. These games are designed around delivering an experience that compels you to spend additional money instead of enjoying what you've already paid for.

I'm also not sure dollars per hour of activity is necessarily the best measure for how much one should spend (or be expected to spend) on something.

How is it not? If you enjoy a game/activity enough to put that many hours into it, is it not worth supporting? Isn't the amount of time you put into something directly proportionate to how much you enjoy it?

I'm not going down this troll-bait rabbit hole.

I agree with this...except are you not really supporting the game by purchasing from a third party?

Riot doesn't ever pirate things. Don't even suggest that he pirates things. He's bought every album he listens to because he supports it just like he supports Clash of Clans.

Do you put time into something because you enjoy it or do you enjoy something because you put a lot of time into it?

I wasn't suggesting that Riot pirated the game. I'm asking if the game developer/publisher sees any benefit from him purchasing that skin from a third party. If not, is he really supporting the game?

Valve takes a small cut of all market sales. Their digital marketplace is actually really popular. Chad was inferring though that I don't really buy a lot of music (aka never) and that my statement about supporting things I like was kind of ironic. I guess the point is if you're gonna stare at something for hundreds of hours you may as well make it cool! And then when I'm done, cash back out and be on my merry way!

I like your philosophical question Merk.
