I added TRON as an industry important game since it was based off of a movie and initially made more money than the film's release (or so says Wikipedia.) TRON demonstrated that video games can be an extension of other media, and can make a lot of money doing so. Just about every modern TV or movie series licenses some poorly developed game, and it seems to be a working formula. Make garbage game, get money.

I would argue that TRON is not a garbage game though. It's just really, really f-ing hard.

However, I am still amused by the fact that it devotes an entire level (one of the four) to the grid bugs which appeared in the movie for all of about 5 seconds. In the movie they basically appear, a character makes mention of them, and then they proceed to do basically nothing. In the game they swarm and (in the later stages) you have to blast dozens and dozens of them to complete the level.

TRON wasn't garbage at all, but the innovator that met with success usually is. Take Vibrams. Now there are many different crappy clones trying to do the same thing. TRON was the first game I can think of that had some pop culture tie-in to make crazy bank.

Not video, I know, but pinball has been doing this since...a very long time ago.

I've never played Discs of TRON. Does anyone know where a working cabinet might be? I have not yet Googled this.

Oh man, if you can find it in the environmental cabinet, it's a real treat.

I've only heard about them. I'd be giddy to try it. I played Discs of Tron at Disney Quest in Orlando a couple of times. I don't know if they still have it. I know they have Flash Beats, but I do like partaking in playing the classics *smokes pipe*.

Pretty sure it's the spiritual pre-successor to this except with a trackball. And I hear it shoots air at you.
I swear Technika shoots air at you too.

Windjammers is the only arcade game you'd ever need to play.

That game was made in 1994. Please follow the rules.
