Guys I made a song

Post by Merk » Sat Jul 11, 2009 9:57 pm

Since I have nothing but free time on my hands I decided to give beat making another shot. I made this song in an hour so you know it has to be of superior quality.

In case you were wondering, no, I still don't know how to make music. I don't make music, I make beeps. I want Chad and Joe to critique this beep pattern.

And yes this deserved its own thread. Every song I make from now on will be posted here. Joe can put songs here too.

Not bad. I actually think the beeps are the best part. The sitar thing (whatever it is) tends to dominate what could be a good ambient track. Might want to slow the tempo a bit as well. :52 - :58 is my favorite part.

I am genuinely surprised that there has been no negativeity thus far. Yes, I agree that the lead is a bit overwhelming, I have trouble it seems balancing all the voices in my songs. I want each instrument to add something and usually something either sticks out too much or is too subtle.

Sigh, I want to get serious about beat-making. I am going to make a song for Chad called "Robot Booty Drop". It'll be done in about a month.

Joe how has your beat-making been going lately? I admire your ability to create presentable music in FL studio. I think I got some working knowledge of music theory and how to make stuff not sound like absolute shit but I suck balls when it comes to song structure.

Pop stuff is fairly simple, it usually goes something like verse 1 (A), chorus (B), bridge (C), verse 2 (A), and chorus (B). I can't write a decent sounding bridge for the life of me, but I think I know the general song structure.

But Jesus, you get into other genres and I don't even know where to start. Some genres of electronic music have like an intro, a verse, a buildup, a climax, a break, another verse, and an outro all of which seamlessly flow into each other. Bleh, I'm probably making it harder than it should be.

My beat-making has been going slower lately because of other responsibilities in life, but I still try to fit some into my schedule. It's taken me several months to create 3 songs which I'm releasing as an EP pretty soon, once I give all of them a final polish and mix, render, and master them properly.

Making a song flow is one of the most difficult things to get down, in my opinion. It's all about the excitement and energy for me, that's why I like trance and hardcore music a lot, psychedelic trance in particular. If you want to discuss beat-making further, I'm always on AIM. You can reach me at Helix Eternal or ChocoboJoeDDR.

Guys I made another song. I put a little bit more effort into it, but it's still the terrible Merk music that you should be familiar with.
