Do you have AGP video slot though on your computer? That could present a VERY MINOR AND SMALL PROBLEM.

AGP cards are still easy enough to find with older GPUs. nVidia 7000 or even 8000 series can be had if you look hard enough. Expect to pay a premium, though. At this point, the premium may justify buying a new mobo/CPU/RAM.
A normality test:
+++ATH
If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

But notice how none of them are any good?

And most of those are old. Like I said, they don't really make AGP cards anymore, and definitely not anything worth buying.

I would hardly consider them being made when the 3850 is the newest thing, which is over a year old and nothing else has come out. I think you're just trying to be argumentative =P

Actually you would be the one being argumentative, as there is clearly manufacturing plants still creating AGP cards yet for some reason you insist on carrying on the conversation.

One of you is reminding me of dbv right now.
I'm not sure which one yet though.

LoL.... well the point is Merk wants a new graphics card that doesn't blow, has an AGP slot, and nothing has come out within the last year that's AGP and there's no AGP cards out that are worth buying. And I seriously doubt anything worth buying will ever be released as AGP, so yes, it is dead.

O DAMN THIS IS HEATING UP.

"However, as of mid 2008 new AGP cards and motherboards are still available for purchase, though OEM driver support is minimal." Doesn't sound dead to me.

Okay then since AGP is so alive and kicking, I challenge you all to go out and find something worth buying that doesn't blow. And Chad just likes making stuff up to spur drama lolz. Just because something is available for purchase doesn't mean it's not dead. I could go buy a VHS tape if I really wanted.

A 3850 is okay, but I've never been a fan of ATI and especially their drivers, and I still think it's pointless to buy anything in AGP if you ever want to upgrade anything or build anytime in the near future. AGP was pretty much phased out like 3 years ago, let alone now... Whatever =P I practically guarantee they won't come out with anything past the 3850 or ever more powerful as the technology isn't capable enough. That card was released last January or so, and there's like 1 or 2 AGP cards that have come out a year which are even anywhere near worth purchasing. Only ATI supports it and just release a few older things a generation or so behind whatever they're working on just to appease people who still have AGP slots.
