Basically what I'm getting at here is if it's viable to skip the Sodastream machine entirely and just buy the sugar like some sort of hellishly expensive Kool-Aid and dump it into some carbonated water.

That's a good question. I'd assume that anything you'd mix with regular water you can mix with carbonated water. I've been making carbonated water, then adding a few splashes of cranberry juice for a hint of flavor. We did some math here in the office, and if you're only drinking carbonated water (and ignoring the negligible cost of water) and drinking a liter per day, you will break even on the purchase after 6 months. It's about 25%-33% the cost of carbonated water in stores.

There are DIY carbonator solutions, but I was too lazy to mess with setting up a regulator.

lol, have you ever drank a soda with no carbonation? Imagine it's gone flat, except 100% flat
I'm actually not sure about this. I've let some carbonated water go flat, but it still tastes different than ordinary water. I wonder if there is some trace amount of co2 that slightly changes the flavor. I'll try to do a blind taste test sometime with water and flat carbonated water from the same source.

Yes, there's remaining carbonic acid that wasn't present initially.

So there you go. Flat soda != syrup + water.

I have no idea what I'm going to get this year but it will probably be money, gift cards, new adult clothes from Kohl's, and soap/shampoo/toothpaste again

Just like every God damn year.

I got a $460 Blu-Ray set, beer, the Pump It Up Zero upgrade kit, and a MK6 for my Pump Cabinet. (Ok, those last two came with my Pump It Up Fiesta upgrade, but still some great shit.)

* 300 US American dollars
* New casual everyday living shoes (ie, not work shoes)
* Two new pairs of slacks for work
* $25 Subway gift card
* $15 Starbucks gift card
* AAA insurance renewal
* A shit load of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and shampoo!

So yeah, the same as every other God damn year.

My family and I went to Firekeepers, the casino up in Michigan, and I played in their daily $40 poker tournament and was able to make it to the final three players! We decided to chop the remaining prize pool so we each walked away with $250 for a profit of $210!

Not a bad year.
* Clothes (A few sweaters, a scarf, some boots, jeans, and one of those fluffy down jackets)
* A Gizmo calendar
* A nice bottle of scotch
* Random foodstuffs
* Cash
* Beer brewing kit
* Tea diver and a new mug
* Some boardgames (Qwirkle, Gubs, and Ingenious)
* A bottle of Malbec
* Some office stuff for my desk

Probably forgot a few things, but that's the basic gist.

She was like "Do I want this? Can I put all my pictures on it? Why did you spend so much money? Why did you tell me you bought me nothing so I only gave you some pillowcases?"

Too funny. You did better than she did.

lol God damn, it sounds like she was not happy.

This is why I can't spend any significant amount of money on people much less 4-figgy.
