Popups? What popups? Oh you mean the stupid Javascript-triggered-when-you-click-a-link things? Yeah, that's why I now browse with JavaScript turned off. That and I never have the flash plugin installed, let alone enabled. The advertisers will send us back to browsers from 1996 before you know it!

Oh, and the possum is hot. Yes, that kind of hot. Oh baby, oh baby, oh baby, oh.

If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

Argh, exactly. I keep Flash, embedded sounds, and JavaScript all turned off unless I go to a site the legitimately uses them. Damn all these newfangled JavaScript ways of getting around popup blockers.

"Oldfangled" too. The original popup ad was done using a javascript onLoad event. The way the popup blockers got around them while still allowing JavaScript to open new windows was to disable the creation of new windows during the onLoad event, since there was almost no legitimate use of this. Unfortunately, unscrupulous advertisers have gotten to hiding the JavaScript triggers in other places, and of course the popup blockers responded by just disabling new window creation there too. However, these are different because they actually respond to a user action (hence the popup pops up on a link click), so it's difficult for the browser to figure out if it's a legit popup or an ad.

Mozilla (I think) lets you disable window creation by javascript entirely, though that will of course break some legit sites. Poke around in about:config.

I also have my images set to animate once (rather than loop forever) on this system and actually have animated images outright disabled on my other system. Along with not having Flash installed/enabled and JavaScript disabled, I rarely see any of those stupid ads (I really don't mind simple text ads). Too bad the advertisers are causing me to disable all these extra features of my browsers simply because they're being co-opted for stupid purposes.
