First off, the most unbe-freaking-christ-a-lievably scary thing I have ever seen, prominently displayed in my e-mail inbox.

I'm used to terribly uncreative spam, but this really opened my eyes to a shocking aspect of our culture: "Orders" is spelled with a zero.

The idea is to get around pattern matching Bayesian filters that try to learn what is and isn't spam based on past references. The funny thing is that mine has learned very well that "0rder" with a zero is spam, but if you just send your email completely straight and unmunged (as in come right out and say "Get your Viagra and Other Penis Pills Here!"), it'll go right through the filter because almost nobody ever sends spam like that anymore.
Interestingly, I got the same mail. The URL is complete, just not in the text portion. If you look at the actual link target, it's valid. Of course, if you just turn of HTML email most spam is just a blank page anyway :)
Either that, or the plain text looks like this (from that same email):
They do that in a further attempt to confuse the spam filters.
EDIT: Normally, I dismiss spam (this one got caught by the filter like usual), but this one has a really neat trick.
The reason you see those spaces in the drug names is because your HTML renderer sucks (possibly IE since you're using Outlook/OE?, oddly enough it was made using some sort of Microsoft product). The product names are actually split up into a 2-row table, both aligned at the same line which makes them get rendered as one line. They then split the names of the drugs up into those two rows where you see the spaces so that the full name doesn't appear anywhere, which would confuse most spam filters. Since the table column width is determined by the widest cell, and the other row is just blank for each position, it meshes together fairly nicely if you have a good HTML renderer and looks normal. Actually quite an ingenious hack, if I do say so myself.

Code: Select all
street-railways would affect Cowperwood so seriously. "You're no
carryin' any of them things, are you?" he added.
It was now a question of lying or telling the truth, and Cowperwo.
was literally afraid to risk lying in this dilemma. If he did no
gain Butler's comprehending support he might fail, and if he fail.
the truth would come out, anyhow.
"I might as well make a clean breast of this, Mr. Butler," he sai

A normality test:

If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.
