I know what you're sayin'. Line is so blurred these days though with every metal and core genre out there. It's fuckin' ridiculous.
Indeed. I'm sure it sounds kind of elitist, but it bothers me when hardcore/metalcore bands call themselves metal. I think there is a distinct difference, even with all the ridiculous sub-genres that have sprung up over the years. They have some similarities, but there's still a difference in style and emotion, and ultimately, I think the hardcore genres are still a form of punk. Even if the styles are blurred, it's most evident in each genres respective fans.
Of course, there will always be bands that don't quite fit into a neat category, but I think you can tell a lot based on the people who listen and attend their shows.
There's still tons of hardcore bands that carry the punk style over "sick breakdowns and guitar shredding bro!" The kids who have no fucking clue what hardcore is but rock Hot Topic's band of the week and have stupid fucking myspace names like xFluffyumpkinsx[crew] piss me off to no end. Same goes for the metal kids who think the internet's next crossover metal band is the sickest thing since Gorgoroth.

There's a few bands in every subgenre that do it amazingly well and then copy cats. I guess that's just how it goes with every group though.

Well, you'd have to be pretty dense to take Cannibal Corpse seriously.

Aww, you're trying to troll me. That's precious. Did you fail to notice what I already said about Cannibal Corpse?

Their lyrics are a fucking joke. Most anyone who listens to them listen for the music. Most death metal from the
early 90's is fairly similar in that respect. Carcass, Obituary, etc. I suppose I'll also state none of them are amongst my
favorite bands. I'm really not a huge fan of death metal. Morbid Angel is one of the few old school death bands I care to listen to.

If I listen to old school metal, I prefer that of the European variety.

I wasn't trying to troll you actually. I like some metal when it has a distinguished rhythm and kind of tinged with classical music I guess. I just don't like "wall of noise" metal and terrible, indistinguishable screaming lead singers. I know you don't like Cannibal Corpse and I'm not dumb enough to not be able to distinguish between that style of metal and the stuff that you like. But I just don't like anything that sounds like screaming noise in general I guess. And I was just laughing that some people actually take Cannibal Corpse seriously as art.

WTF, Mother North by Satyricon? That is quite possibly one of the most f*cking rediculous metal videos I've ever seen in my life. (Albeit, they didn't top Immortal's videos.)

I'm not a big fan of those death metal screaming vocals --- only because it gets dull after a while, and the high-school grade "ooh I'm writing scary lyrics" thing is pretty silly. The only band with a vocalist like that that I enjoy is meshuggah, just because of the complexity of the music and the incredible guitar playing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A_tSyJBsRQ (great video)

But as far as metal goes, I prefer a band with a more dynamic vocalist (Tool, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Symphony X, etc.)
