Still awkward at 29 (almost) also. Finishing my dissertation, living and going to school in Las Vegas (of all places). You know, doing the things and stuff.
What's everyone else been up to these many years?

Whoa really? IndyDDR's very own Brian Ho is in Las Vegas right this minute, maybe you guys can go shoot some craps somewhere! Is there a casino there that's considered the "townie" casino? I imagine it's probably something like the New Orleans Station -- I have no idea if that joint is still around or not.

We do, but we don't take tourists there because we don't want to spoil the glitzy image of Vegas by removing them from the Las Vegas Strip . There is, however, a nice arcade right next to the Pinball Hall of Fame, for future reference.Merk wrote:Whoa really? Also, out of curiosity, what can you possibly teach middle schoolers about technology? Aren't they the ones who grew up with it?

We went to that arcade and the Pinball Hall of Fame when we were there for EVO a couple years back!classic candy wrote:We do, but we don't take tourists there because we don't want to spoil the glitzy image of Vegas by removing them from the Las Vegas Strip . In terms of technology, we do a lot of stuff:
-Google SketchUp (3D modeling)
-Excel (basics for 6th grade, formula work for 8th)
-Basic programming (game designing software like Scratch, LEGO robotics programming, etc.)
-Bridge building (we do a bridge design software and then actually make them out of popsicle sticks and start hanging weights from them to test)
-Various building projects (Balloon car, Mag-Lev racing cars, gears)
-Video editing and sound editing in Adobe Premiere (we just did a "bad lip reading" video where we gave them muted movie clips and they had to record a dub track and remix all the audio)
That kinda stuff. All the kids have their own laptop.

Any of the Station casinos, really. There's also Sam's Town and few others. Or the gas station, grocery store, bars, or other various gaming venues.Merk wrote:Yo I wanna know what the townie casino is God damn it!
I wish I had learned excel like that in middle school. It's only now that I'm really starting to feel like I've begun to master all of the amazing things excel and its various plugins can do. Sounds like a lot of fun. Train them well so they're not such smart asses when they get to me in a few years.

Oh man. I just got back early this morning. I guess I forgot to check in on IndyDDR while I was out there. I totally would have done a little meetup.
I went back to the Pinball Hall of Fame on this trip (hadn't been since 2015), but I didn't know there was an arcade nearby. How close is it? Anything notable there? The only arcade I made a point of visiting on this trip was Game Nest to do some laundry...er, um...play Mai Mai.
Also, I tend to spend most of my time off the strip doing random things and eating ALL THE FOOD.

Off strip is the best and has the BEST food. Next time look up the Donut Hut. Also, right next to the Pinball Hall of Fame is this shopping center with a retro game store and an arcade called Press Start Gaming. They have a bunch of really awesome Japanese games. You should definitely check it out next time!Ho wrote:Oh man. I just got back early this morning. I guess I forgot to check in on IndyDDR while I was out there. It's likely that I will be back...probably later this year, even! I definitely have my favorites in town, but I'm always willing to try something new. This year we discovered Blueberry Hill. I wanted to take it home with me.
