does the full db exist already somewhere and the chunks you're talking about combining are the themes and stuff? cuz yeah like riot said we dont care we just want the posts lol

if the db is in chunks what kind of chunks are we talking?

It's the db that's in chunks.

Back in those days, there was such limited space on the server that I had to archive/remove old data so we didn't go over our limit. Every time I did that, I would have a backup file that contained several months worth of posts.

I think that I can just restore each of those sequentially to rebuild the whole db, but I have to have the old phpBB up and running first. Bringing the old theme back should actually be relatively easy. I think that would be just a one-time restore.

At any rate, the main tasks are:

1) Install phpBB 2 and make it work. Hopefully it doesn't have any incompatibilities with the MySQL and PHP versions that are currently running on this server to run this phpBB 3 installation. If not, great! If so, fuck!
2) Find all the pieces and parts to rebuild the database. I'm pretty sure I have them all, but these would have been made over the course of several years, and a lot has happened (both digitally and physically) in the intervening years. I doubt they're all in the same place. Hopefully I can find them all.

These aren't necessarily hard things to do, but I've started and stopped this twice before, so I feel like I must have hit some kind of snag. Or maybe I just ran out of patience or time.

Like I said, somebody mail me some motivation. This should be doable. I just need something to make me more excited about it and willing to dump a few hours into it vs. playing Xbox or something else that actually sounds like fun rather than work.

P.S. - "Mail me motivation" is not intended to imply that I want someone to actually mail me something. I don't know what this motivation would actually look like. The biggest thing to overcome here, is me.

I can probably merge the databases without an instance of phpBB running, then you can just point a phpBB3 instance at it and let it "upgrade" it to the new schema.

If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

Every day that this isn't done, we should quote the same post asking to restore the old database!

In spite, I'd restore the old database over the active one.

I wonder how many people remember their old passwords or at least have the same email address so they can do a password recovery to log in?

I've had the same e-mail since like 1998.
