Well, my band is a 5 piece with a lead guitar, rythym guitar, drummer, singer, and keyboardist...but you live all the way in louisville.

ugh for a while the heavy metal band I was in was that... it worked kinda well. I was the keyboardist, but soon after the rhythm guitarist left and it got alot smoother... it's very hard to integrate rhythm guitar and keyboard. When the rhythm guitarist left I just kinda floated between keyboard and rhythm guitar.

Depends on the style. If you're only using the keyboards to create a backdrop for the guitars, then yeah...amongst other things, it becomes too thick and cluttered.
However, if the keyboard has it's own identity instead, it can work...so long as all the instruments aren't playing at the same time, through the whole song....which is boring regardless.

oh don't get me wrong it can work beautifully (rammstein is a 5 piece band with that setup)

I normally don't see it happen with heavy/death metal bands though. I know it got cluttered alot. They wanted the keyboards for orchestral back tracking, but it either didn't come out, or clashed with the rhythm guitar.

What they wanted was the keyboard to play a major role, and the rhythm guitar to play a major role.... doesnt' work to well :D polyphony what?

I play the bass, and I play mostly blues scales, with the execption of playing the occasional metal riff, and I play them well. Get it, got it, good.

Yeah, I always hate the situation where you get a new guitar player in the band and then he quits. I hate that kind of stuff.

Anyone taking dibbs?

I have 2 amps that I use for my drum mics, I have a fairly "large drumset" and at shows it doesn't sound right without the mics. I use a shure PG type so they actually work pretty well, though my kick mic does sound static at times.

Any help?????
I need it.

are you making sure that the kick mic is a fist away from the middle of the drum? is there any padding inside the kick drum? are you going for a harder kick sound or a deep thud?
