To this day, every time I hear 'Any Man Of Mine' by Shania Twain (which fortunately isn't often), I'm immediately reminded of the summer that I worked an assembly line job and country music was blaring through the sound system every day (loudly, since the machines were loud enough already). That song haunted my dreams... and not in a good way.Original Sin wrote:I get tired of hearing it every 45 minutes on the radio at work. I'm not exagerating, either. Ya gotta punch den crank back three times.
Yeah I worked at GM on the assembly line over the summer, I swear if I didn't already hate "classic rock" before that, I pretty much loathe it afterwards.malictus wrote:To this day, every time I hear 'Any Man Of Mine' by Shania Twain (which fortunately isn't often), I'm immediately reminded of the summer that I worked an assembly line job and country music was blaring through the sound system every day (loudly, since the machines were loud enough already). Hell, if you got to listen to classic rock in a factory, concider yourself fortunate. That's usually the best it gets. Typically, depending on what racial group you're working in close proximity to, it's either hip hop (or the new 'classic dance' station we have in the fort), or country. There are some younger guys where I work, so occasionally I'll hear the modern rock station....but rarely.Riot wrote:

That's the reason I brought in my own radio, and it's huge....I can listen to whatever the fuck I want, and if 'Soulja Boy' comes on the radio for the 50th time near my work station, I can drown it out with, say...Slayer.

Slayer sucks. There, disgraced without illiterate ghetto jargon.Original Sin wrote:Blasphemy! Do no disgrace Slayer with illiterate ghetto jargon! ...even if it is witty.
C'mon, ma, can I borrow the keys?
My generation is carpooling with doom and disease
Buckle up, skipper
The new american Asterix
You're riding shotty with Jesus of Nascar-eth
At the end of the day, we all sittin' on 24s
365 horses, no horseshit
with nothing but a learner's permit
Delinquents on the autobahn poppin' our airbags off the worthless
I'm not depressed, man
I'm just a fucking New Yorker
Who knows that sittin' in traffic with these bastards is torture
I'll be in a jalopy with a mami getting head rest
And howl at the glowing moon roof as proof that I'm not dead yet
And y'all can all give me the hummer
'Cause in the meantime, I'ma pimp this ride like fly formula one-er
This is the El-Product summer
With a gleam of factory gun metal sheen grey and no vin number
[Chorus]
Drive, Drive, Drive
Hopped in the hooptie screaming "freedom is mine!"
Drive, Drive, Drive, Drive
Bumpin' the tune I so conveniently provide
Drive, Drive, Drive, Drive, Drive
Don't have to be flashy, I'll use any old ride
Drive, Drive, Drive, Drive
Hop in the whip and peel away, stay alive
Cars slide by with the bomming system
Like New York is Fallujah with metal gear using christians
Posted up for the gods of oil mining
In a military humvee with no bullet proof siding (sorry, guys)
Brooklyn, baby
I'm waterlocked walkin' nervous
When the curfew was imposed closing transportational service
This gonzomatic fear turns me Hunter S. Thompson
With my lawyer leaning over the side view mirror vomiting
You call 'em windows, I call 'em asbestos lesseners
For this wheezing in my chest I'll need more than fucking air fresheners
There ain't no easy pass
Hands on the dash
You'll get rocked in casba if the movement's too fast
Here come the cannon balls, run
Get in your gremlin
The days of thunder's creepin' up sooner than you expected
Paranoid brethren disable their onstar knowing they'll trace us
Pull us over and shout "get out le car!"
[Chorus]
These thugs got the heart of Herbie the Luv Bug
It don't take a speed racing mind to see that they're just stuck
I'll wrap your promo truck with a nambla stencil to prove that
you're fucking babies
Frontin' up in a rental
I knew a kid who navigated it slippery
And fuel injected a speed ball on hs way to Atlantic City
Out the race before even making his mark
And now he'll never pick his shit up out of long term parking
My triple A card has one too many initials
And autobot on the fringe of liquid addiction spinning fish-tails
About to careen on some toonces shit off the cliff
But love of the sport of racing is keeping me out of coffins
Camu was like "Fuck it, just keep the beats dirty dusty"
I grabbed the CD radio like "10/4 good buddy"
I'll keep running the track
Even when muddy
'Cause my insurance don't cover leaving the pit crew that love me
So I drive
[Chorus]

You learn to play guitar like that, and then tell me they suck. You can say you don't like them, but saying a band sucks just because your opinion differs is a tad full of yourself, don't you think? I don't like your music, but I'm not saying it sucks. However, I would rather shoot myself in the head with a nail gun than listen to it.SoDeepPolaris wrote:Slayer sucks. Re: Rap Music, and the Discussion of It
THANK YOU. Finally, people with a brain. And if you think it's harsh listening to this shit, imagine not listening to it and being dissed because you're black, as I have been since the beginning of time.ShammerS wrote:As a community based on music-games, I can only assume that we've all got our own taste in what's good and what isn't. So, here's the deal.
I hate rap music with nearly every fiber of my being. This most certainly includes (but is not limited to) nearly every song heard on Indianapolis' 96.3FM and 93.1FM. Popular rap music seems to be a sad mix of a shitty, one-lined catch phrase sung by a no-talent racist/sexist.
Granted, racism and sexism can be funny, but they take that shit seriously and talk about it like it's a key and important part of 'being a g' or whatever the fuck they call that whole idea of being rich for sounding like a dog in heat while they sing.
In my opinion, the entire industry is led by it's producers who, at this point, have simply run out of creativity. The same generic beat (I can point it out to you musically, if you'd like) can be heard in nearly every song with one of three variations. The same cheesy production sounds can be heard in the background, usually a bunch of deep-voiced dudes going "hey" on the off beats.
With such hits like "Walk It Out" and "This Is Why I'm Hot" being played numerous times on a daily basis, I can't help but wonder when the songs will stop being requested and people start to hear something that remotely resembles talent. It simply seems to me that people only listen to it as a way to completely escape having a brain capable of coherent or productive thought.
Fuck popular rap and hip-hop; that's my opinion.
Here's my opinion on it. Rap CAN be good, but it's very...VERY rare. I'm sure if rap had some kind of a positive message to it, rather than trying to "SUPERMAN DAT HOOOOOOO!!!!!" I, as well as many others, would be more eager to listening to it. But that involves shortening the current base of idiots that thrive on this crap now, which I'm sure beats out the number of people who don't like popular rap.
It's really not even limited to rap, either. All popular music sucks in my opinion.
That's why I just listen to good 'ol electronica. It's good music, and Rarely a word to be heard. No Pimpin' "HOS", no spitting game, and especially no teenie boppers trying to have sex at the first given opportunity.
I might also add that if you think that Popular music is the only thing weeding out America's intelligence, you should see what Text Messaging is doing...
